Grateful For The Good Deeds Of Others

I’m forever grateful to God for those who He brought into my life and that they invested their time and energy in helping me on my life’s journey. I’m thankful for their good deeds and blessings. I, in return I have done good deeds for others on their journey as well.

In my early search for my family history, my cousin, Mary Jane (Blakey) Lightner and her Grandmother, Lucinda Mary (Kinney) Blakey (who was my Grandfather’s sister in law) shared with me and my sister, Mary what they knew of about our family connections And what I heard was the start of a journey that unfolded more discoveries about our family history.

In the late 1980’s, I came across Mrs. Carolyn M. Bartles, a genealogist and a name by the name of Mark, a librarian in Columbia, Missouri. I’m so grateful for their help. I had little info on my family and somehow, they discovered things about my relatives.

Mark searched old newspapers and found the evidence that my ancestors were the enslaved in Howard County Missouri. He sent me a copy of the page of the Glasgow Weekly Times Glasgow, Missouri 11 Feb 1858, Thu  •  Page 2 ~ My ancestors names were listed as property to be sold. This is horrible.

My ancestors were human beings. And I can say their names: my 2nd Great Grandfather, Andrew White , my 2nd Great Grandmother, Julia (Finney) White, and their children, Linda White, Mary White, Isaac Blakey, Ben White, Spencer White and the two other children. Isaac Blakey was my Great Grandfather. He served in the Civil War and was honorably discharged.

I’m thankful that Carolyn wrote as much as she could between 1988 to 1990. I still have her letters. Through her correspondances, she shared what she came across. I re read her letters last week. And shared them with my BBW Family Connections on facebook.

I’m thankful for the breakthroughs during on my search. I wouldn’t have done it without the help of those who do good deeds. This encourages me to want to keep searching and to help others on their search.

God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2: 10 ~ Good News Translation

I hope that we will continue to do good works as we go about doing good deeds to others. There are people God places into our daily walk for a purpose. Only if we can see the opportunities show some good deeds to them.

May God grant us discernment to do for others.
May we be appreciative for all that others do for us.
May we have a thankful heart as we are on our way to where God is leading us.
Amen!

Week 47: Good Deeds: via Genealogy Cafe on facebook
Do you know about an ancestor’s good deeds? Maybe someone did a good deed for you that led to a family history discovery? Deeds could also refer to land records. So many possibilities this week! Feel free to post your links and stories in the comments below.
