Susan,
ReplyDeleteI have read some of your genealogical research on your family, particularly on Isaac Blakey. I am caucasian, age 65, and have also researched both sides of my family, Ice and Blakey. My Blakey ancestors originally settled in Middlesex County, Virginia around 1688. Initially, they intermarried with the Churchill family. So those two families have a rich history, etc. tobacco planters, Churchill family helped establish Louisville, KY and Churchill Downs. The Ice family were of Dutch/Flemish heritage and the original name was Ten Eyck. They were pioneer family, settling eventually in the Morgantown, WVA area and had numerous encounters with Indians. Rather than continue a long discussion here, I will say that you might want to do a search on 'Find A Grave' site regarding two Vietnam fatalities who were members of the Blakey family and who were both black. One is Howell Frank Blakey who is buried in Albemarle County, Virginia. He was a Marine LCpl. Interestingly, I believe that the Blakey slave owner of Isaac Blakey was also originally from this area of Virginia before relocating to Missouri. The other Vietnam veteran was Michael Blakey who is buried in the Sacramento, CA area. I have determined that he is related to your Isaac Blakey and also to the group that moved to Yankton, SD.
