Searching Records: Looking For Some Clues

I'm still on the journey. I've been searching through  census records in Chariton , Howard Counties in Missouri and  Natchez and Woodville Mississippi  areas. I'm trying to locate where some of my ancestors lived. I hope to find some new clues to follow up on.

Here's a blog I posted on another site. The idea come from Genealogy Café via facebook

Namesake: Isaac BLAKEY

There is a line of Isaac Blakeys from Mississippi, Missouri, South Dakota, Minnesota.

The family of the first Isaac Blakey carried the WHITE surname while enslaved in Missouri. Isaac WHITE choose the BLAKEY surname.

There is an affidavit verifying that he said that his name is Isaac BLAKEY.

Who was Isaac BLAKEY, the first ?
(1845 ca -1917)

,

He was the son of Andrew WHITE and Julia (FINNEY) WHITE.
Isaac was formerly enslaved in Missouri and was a farmer…
He made his way to freedom and enlisted into the Civil War in MS.

His name was Private Isaac Blaker during his service in the Civil War (1863 – 1866).
He was a Civil War Veteran: Wounded while drilling in the Spring of 1864…
His first wife was Martha SCOTT and second wife, Rachel LEPHRIDGE / JACKSON
He was the father of twenty: Twin sons by Martha, 18 children by Rachel.

Who was Isaac BLAKEY, the second?.
(1877ca – 1971)

He was the first son of Isaac and Rachel (LEPHRIDHE) BLAKEY.
He was born in Mississippi.
Isaac was a farmer, a dog catcher, a hunter.

He was married to Maggie WILLIAMS.
He was the father of 11 sons and 5 daughters.

“Isaac was a very versatile person.
Although he had very little formal education, he was a wise man in many ways.
He was a salesman extra-ordinary , raised dogs, and was a coon hunter,
manufactured molasses from cane sugar he raised, was a butcher,
and a church leader– lay preacher and singer.”
Isaac Jr. went hunting with Clark Gabel, the actor in “Gone With The Wind”.

Who was Isaac BLAKEY, the third?
(1916 – 1985)

Rev. Isaac R. Blakey was the 11th child of Isaac Jr. and Maggie (WILLIAMS) BLAKEY.
He was born in South Dakota.

He was the husband of Arlee (BULLARD) BLAKEY.
He was the father of 6 sons and 8 daughters.

Isaac was a railroad porter, shoe shiner, farmer, part time pastor.
On his tombstone: Psalm 2:1 A Friend To Man

There are at least two more Isaac Blakeys
Son of Isaac Ramson Blakey, his son Isaac and his son, Isaac Blakey.
And there are at least two other Blakeys with middle name of Isaac.

Names handed down through the generations mean something.
But, having the first and last name means more.
It’s a bit confusing when sharing about family history or even speaking about relatives. It’s important to know dates, places and who they married.

Thanks for reading.

Some Of My Family Connections Resolutions For 2021

What are some of my plans for my family connections quest?

I will continue to journal and share some of my discoveries about some of my ancestors. I plan to take the 52 ancestors 52 weeks challenge via Genealogy Café via facebook . The journey is challenging. And I’ll update my findings through the themes along the way, when possible.

I believe that there’s more for me to discover about my family history. I’m thankful that God has given me a heart’s desire to seek out my family connections. I’m thankful that God has allowed me to do what I do.

Through the decades. of searching for my family tree, it has grown. I have so many relatives. I’m hoping to stumble across more in the years to come. Thank You, Jesus!

I plan to focus on locating
the where about of my Great Grandfather Isaac BLAKEY, his mother, Julia and her children on the 1870 census. I hope to find more clues from Isaac’s pension records.

I hope to find some clues. I think that I will discover more along my journey. I hope other will searching as well. It takes a team to search for our family connections.

May we not set out to make what we plan a ritual.
May we adjust to the changes that are needed.
May we see our goals as challenges.
May we do the best with what we have.
Amen!

Happy New Year!

Daniel White was the brother of Frances (White) Blakey. Frances was the former slave owner of Julia White and her children. During slavery, Richard may have ended up with Daniel and stayed on with him as a hired hand. Richard was listed on the 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940 censuses.

I hope descendants of Richard "Dick" White Sr Discover this information.
Or Perhaps someone can add more information. Or if there is any error, please comment.

Grateful For The Good Deeds Of Others

I’m forever grateful to God for those who He brought into my life and that they invested their time and energy in helping me on my life’s journey. I’m thankful for their good deeds and blessings. I, in return I have done good deeds for others on their journey as well.

In my early search for my family history, my cousin, Mary Jane (Blakey) Lightner and her Grandmother, Lucinda Mary (Kinney) Blakey (who was my Grandfather’s sister in law) shared with me and my sister, Mary what they knew of about our family connections And what I heard was the start of a journey that unfolded more discoveries about our family history.

In the late 1980’s, I came across Mrs. Carolyn M. Bartles, a genealogist and a name by the name of Mark, a librarian in Columbia, Missouri. I’m so grateful for their help. I had little info on my family and somehow, they discovered things about my relatives.

Mark searched old newspapers and found the evidence that my ancestors were the enslaved in Howard County Missouri. He sent me a copy of the page of the Glasgow Weekly Times Glasgow, Missouri 11 Feb 1858, Thu  •  Page 2 ~ My ancestors names were listed as property to be sold. This is horrible.

My ancestors were human beings. And I can say their names: my 2nd Great Grandfather, Andrew White , my 2nd Great Grandmother, Julia (Finney) White, and their children, Linda White, Mary White, Isaac Blakey, Ben White, Spencer White and the two other children. Isaac Blakey was my Great Grandfather. He served in the Civil War and was honorably discharged.

I’m thankful that Carolyn wrote as much as she could between 1988 to 1990. I still have her letters. Through her correspondances, she shared what she came across. I re read her letters last week. And shared them with my BBW Family Connections on facebook.

I’m thankful for the breakthroughs during on my search. I wouldn’t have done it without the help of those who do good deeds. This encourages me to want to keep searching and to help others on their search.

God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2: 10 ~ Good News Translation

I hope that we will continue to do good works as we go about doing good deeds to others. There are people God places into our daily walk for a purpose. Only if we can see the opportunities show some good deeds to them.

May God grant us discernment to do for others.
May we be appreciative for all that others do for us.
May we have a thankful heart as we are on our way to where God is leading us.
Amen!
