A Special Day: March 28, 1937.

In Memory of My Parents' 80th Wedding Anniversary

In the year 1937, Easter Sunday fell on March 28.
That was the day my parents wanted to get married.
And so, they eloped in Kansas.

They were married at the home of Reverend Bell.
He who preformed the wedding ceremony.
My father's step father, Chilton Lyle was a witness.
My parents decided to move to Nebraska for a few years
and they later returned to Missouri where they were born.

My mother was 16, almost 17 in 24 days
and my father was 24 and 5 months of age.
From this union came 19 children. 15 sons and 4 daughters.
God blessed my parents with 52 and 1/2 years of marriage.
They left a legacy that lives on.
They are missed but never forgotten by family and friends.

In Memory of Lillie "Susie" (BLAKEY) Hayes and Edward "Ed" W. HAYES

I've been searching for info on the descendants of Edward "Ed" W. Hayes and Lillie "Susie" Blakey Hayes. I've been at a brick wall.  However, through the years, I've made some breakthroughs.

Edward Hayes married Miss Lillie Blakey sometime in 1905 or 1906 in Missouri. They had a daughter named Edna Verles  Hayes born on Oct 21, 1906 in MO. The family was listed on the 1910 in Salisbury, Chariton, Missouri.

In 1910, the Hayes family lived next to Lillie's parents, Isaac and Rachel Blakey and family. I noted that Ollie and Mary Green lived near. Mary was Lillie's sister.

Some time in 1913, the Hayes family moved to South Dakota. According to the 1920 census, Edward and Lillie had another daughter named Dorothy. She was born in June of 1918 in South Dakota. Also, I noted that the Hayes lived near Ollie and Mary Green in Yankton.

As for Edna, she married at the age of 15 to an Arnie Bentley on June 2, 1921 in Yankton, South Dakota. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa in 1923. By 1925, Arnie and Edna were divorced. Edna restored her maiden name to Hayes.

On Sept 22, 1927, Edna Hayes married Chris / Christopher C. Yancey  in Norfolk, Madison, Nebraska. I'm not for sure if Edna had any off springs. I've found no record that she did.

Edna Yancey passed on March 6, 1929 in Sioux City Iowa at the age of 22. Chris and Edna lived at 313 West 14th Street. I noted that Edna's parents lived there in 1932. Edna was buried in Yankton, South Dakota.

I can assume that Edna was buried in the Yankton City Cemetery. That's where some of the earlier Blakeys were buried.  I discovered that Edna's mother Lillie Hayes was buried in Logan Park Cemetery in Iowa.

I hope to find more info on Edward W. Hayes.  Edna's father, Ed was born the son of William and Mary Hayes on May 22, 1884 in Keysville, Missouri. He married his 2nd wife, Texella L. Holliday on Oct 3, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa.  The last record of Edward was about 1951 in Iowa.

As for Dorothy Hayes, she would have been Lillie's niece. Lillie's sister Martha (Blakey) Hayes passed in 1918. Lillie could have raised Dorothy as her daughter.

I hope you will discoveries on your family connections. Or maybe you know something about the descendants of Edward and Lillie (Blakey Hayes.) If so, feel free to add to the family history.

Thanks for reading.
God bless you
